Like many children, I love my mother dearly. She is a sweet woman, puts others first and always minimizes her own wants. She decided to do a “girls trip” not too long ago where she actually left the continental USA for the first time and into the Caribbean. I remember thinking, “My mom? Going on a cruise? No…”, but it happened. And she loved it. :) This must have started a travel bug for her because she started asking me and my sister about a different kind of “girls trip". We had a couple of ideas, but settled on NYC. I LOVE NYC. My sister had only passed through it and my mom hadn't been.
McSorley’s Old Ale House was one of our favorite things that we did. Mostly because we met two life long New Yorkers. The older gentleman had lived only a few blocks away since he was married - nearly 60 years! He had purchased the apartment on a teacher’s salary at the time. Can you imagine getting a 2 bedroom apartment in downtown NYC on a teacher salary now?! Incredible. They were extremely friendly, warm and entertaining. They convinced us to get the cheese - and they were right on the money. Thank you for making our time at McSorley’s so incredibly memorable. I hope I’m cool enough that I can make someone’s vacation highlight reel in the future!
Brooke made these really fun, really goofy video reviews of everything we did where we all pitched in. It is funny how photos and videos can make it feel like you are there all over again.
My favorite experience was the Tenement Museum. It is awesome. It is an old apartment building with a big history. If you are a nerd like me and like to imagine what it was like to live during different time periods, this is the place for you! They have a ton of different tours, so I will be back again. We also did a Spirit Boat Tour around the city, went to the Top of the Rock, the 9/11 Memorial (which was incredible and totally heart wrenching), Aladdin on Broadway, and everywhere in between. I also got to see my high school friend, Stephanie, who lives in Brooklyn. Last time I went to NYC I stayed in Brooklyn and very much like Brooklyn.
Thanks for the good times. :) Brooke, Mom - we’ll always have New York. :)
